1st of all thank you for reading this post even thought you might think you are wasting you time at the end. I have a minor problem with my wife's 2004 Xa, the cable to open the hood broke and now it won't open, i know how to change the cable and installed it but i go no idea how to open it from outside, everybody tells me with a flat screw driver but fail to be specific on the "how"
Please this is my 1st time on Scion forums i kind of hang around more in the Honda side but they also got no idea how to help me on this one.
I really need to check my wife's car brake fluid and i wont have any money to repair the problem until next week.
Again i am so sorry to bother you guys i did searched this Xa forum under "hood wont open" and "hood problems" and couldn't find anything.
Please help |

| if you can get access to the cable anywhere try to pull it extremely hard. Another option is to try to get some screwdrivers in there and pop the latch. You could also try to get under the car and pop it with a long straight piece or make a hook to pull the latch. If all of those options fail then just take it to the dealership (should be covered under warranty??) |

where did the cable break?
was it at or near the latch inside the car? if so, try to find the end of the cable and pull it with some vise grips
unfoutunately, modern hoods are difficult to open from the outside because of theft and the like. best bet would probly to try to get at the cable from the bottom. I am thinking, with the car properly secured on jack stands, a person could use a hook-shaped-door-opener or a straighted peice of wire hanger to pull the cable down from just behind the latch (going thru the gap just behind the electric fan coming from the bottom). going this route will probly result in a few broken plastic clips |

| stealership is your best bet I think. I've tried going up from the bottom (for other things) and it doesn't work so well. Also while I was painting my grille, my hood closed completely and I couldn't get it open without pulling the release from inside. |
