That is horrible--you must be doing stop and go. I get over 30 every time going 80 MPH. Interesting to see what the xB2's will get in reality.......... |

| So far with 260 miles, I've been getting 28. That's mixed City/HWY. |

| I suck at getting good gas mileage. 1st tank was 19avg and second is 22. We will see when I calm down. But I drive 5 miles to work all city with lots of lights |

I hear you. I drive 13miles each way to work all city. I got 22 on my first tank and looking at 23.5 on second. Hopefully it will get better. I have started to try to lift my lead foot a little. |

Last tank was 21, was getting better but last night got on it several times and dropped the mileage.
SO now the question about the "trip computer"
it said I had 22 miles left, but when I filled up it only took 10.5 gallons. Does that mean the gauge doesn't read distance to empty, but distance to gas light going on? |

I drove my new (read not broken in) xB 185.5 miles yesterday. I would estimate the driving conditions as partially in town (I'd guess 20%) and partially on two lane highways (about 70% at mostly about 65 mph except for down to 35-40 for all the small towns) and the other 10% on a short run on I-90 of about twenty miles (@ 75 mph btw).
I was curious how the computer was going to stack up against a real fill-up check on the mileage. This morning I filled up with the computer saying I averaged 28.9 mpg. I had traveled 185.5 miles. It took 6.299 gallons to fill it up. That calculates to 29.44 for that trip. That put the computer about a half mile per gallon less than the true calculation. Pretty decent accuracy.
Based on my experience, I think a broken in 08 should be able do over 30mpg in the Interstate type driving.
I'm happy. It is bigger than my Mazda3 and it gets better gas mileage. :D |

17.4mpg over 406 miles.
The car has seen like 40 miles of freeway driving. The rest of it is stop and go so cal grind. |

Craig did you reset the trip computer averages when you got the car?
I realize you are in the worst case scenario for mileage, but based on what I saw when I got mine, there was a lot of idling done before I got the car. It may not make any difference due to your adverse conditions, but you should reset anyway to be sure you know how that number got there. You might even do an actual calculation on fill-up when you can to see how the computer compares. |

| first tank filled today, averaging 22.3 mpg...stop and go driving...i also was wondering about the trip computer too..i put in 10.5 gallons and it said i only had 25 miles left on the tank? even with 22mpg, i shouldve been able to get another 80 miles out of the 14 gallon t.ank |

My fuel computer is off by about 1 MPG according to my calculations. Last tank averaged around 26.5 and that was with 80 MPH highway and mixed city driving.
Regarding the trip computer's range calculation, I took a gamble a few weeks ago and drove about 45 miles no problem after it said I had 0 miles left. I was worrying about running out of gas the whole time. I think I filled up with about 13.5 gallons. |

| Just passed over 1000 miles today. It has been creeping up from 27.5 to a peak of 28.9 with my normal driving, about 80 miles a day of mixed driving, 20% city, 60% back roads at about 50 mph and 20% highway, about 70 mph. I have been calculating based on the odometer and the amount of gas to fill it up. Today I reset the mpg calculator in the car on fill-up (it did display 28.9), and with 90 miles driven today, it read 34.8 at the end of the day. I am experimenting on this tank of gas using hyper-miling techniques I read about a couple of days ago. When I refuel sometime next week I'll let you know how it worked. By the way, I have the 5-speed. |
