This was for my Honda, not my box, but thought people would find it interesting.
I had a set of nice (but sort of boring) 14" x 6" OZ alloys That came with my CB7 when I bought it. They had been sitting around for 3 years. I decided I wanted to have an inexpensive set of white wheels. I've just been digging white wheels lately. Anyway...here is a brief photo documentation of the project start to finish.
scuff-sanded and clean, waiting for it to start
everything masked
Used Duplicolor wheel paint and wheel clear
Tape off. Here's the backside of the wheel. I left some of it aluminum to save material and time.
Here's the finished face of the wheel. It's fairly glossy after wet-sanding with 1000, 1500, & 2000 grit. Then rubbing compound and polishing compound.

What is that? About 2 rolls of tape per wheel. :silly:
Ever try using news paper with tape only in the places where it needs to be? Works really well.
Waiting for some mounted pics in the daytime. |

It's a lot of tape.
I need all the adhesive surface to get it to stick to the tire, because Armor All residue caused the tape to just fall off unless I covered the whole thing.
Armor all is almost impossible to clean off - Paint thinner works best. |

Not sure that I follow. These aren't factory wheels so there is no Honda logo on the centercaps

1000 grit, then 1500, then 2000, then rubbing compound. Don't know the brand names I just got it at Advance Auto Parts. |

Nice job! That's a clean-looking Accord you have there. Almost everyone of that body style I see is either a rusty heap or a ricer with lambo doors and a hideous body kit.
On the S10 I had, I painted the steelies black, but kinda half-assed it. I took off the wheels, cleaned them, and hit them with engine enamel. No sanding, because I was lazy, and only used one can of paint anyway. Oddly enough, they came out nice, and held up real well the last two years I had the truck.
Of course, on alloys, I'd put in more effort, too, since it would be more noticeable. |
