Can someone please look at this engine picture & help me

identify this part?

I was in a wreck and they fixed the body but when i went to pick up the car today the engine was making a clicking noise and the part that i outlined with the red square was vibrating pretty violently. I put a circle connecting the 2 parts I am talking about. The large hose and the rectangular box thing.

Can anyone tell me what these things are and what they do?

The service king tried to tell me nothing was wrong but I was sure that it was not normal because I have been under my hood before (I later verified this by going to a dealer and looking at a used xb and it didnt vibrate or make that noise so there is no doubt something is fuct).

Really that tiny little rectangular thing? Didn't expect it would be so small.

Any idea what would make it shake like crazy?

The stock airbox is rubber mounted and does shake somewhat. That part hanging off the left side of the airbox (when looking at your picture) was always making a noise before I added my short ram intake. The key is to rebend the mounting bracket cause when it gets removed and re installed the mounting bracket gets bent slightly and doesn't hold tight.
Your little circle shows the mass air flow sensor. If it's loose you should be able to re-tighten the mounting screws to stop it from vibrating.
Any way to get a more close up pic of exactly where the noise is coming from?

Yea, check the MAF sensor (in the circle) make sure it's tight. Also, make sure the hose clamps are tight.

mounting bolts could be loose inside the airbox, the hose clamps may not be securely clamped, or not in the correct location for a tight secure fit, the motor mounts may be bad causing the whole engine to shake... i would first check all the hose connections leading in and out of the airbox, starting from the throttle body, (silver round part just to the lower left of the red square in your pic, if you dont know what a throttle body is). check them leading into the air box, and leading out, there is a hose leading out on the BOTTOM of the air box and it comes out, and ends up just to the left of your drivers side headlight when you are facing the engine. the end looks like a "snorkle" and is bolted to a small bracket with a 10mm bolt, the end of it actualy butts up against the headlight, which is a BIG restriction in your airflow, most people who dont have after market intakes will remove this lower hose and change the airfilter to a K&N drop in filter for better airflow. MAKE SURE THE ENGINE IS COOL BEFORE YOU START FEELING AROUND IN THERE!!!
If all connections are secure and proppa, check the MAF and make sure that it is securely mounted to the airbox assembly (it's the large black plug at the top of the red circle in your pic.) make sure the harness is securely plugged into it, and also make sure that the 2 screws that attach it to the airbox are snug. Next you can remove the top of the airbox (a few clips attach it to the bottom of the assembly in front and in back) and remove the air filter, etc..
look into the bottom of the stock air box, and you will see some bolts securein the airbox to the engine bay. make sure that none are missing and or loose (you will need a 6 inch socket extention and a 10mm socket. Now would also be a perfect time to remove that lower airbox hose if you haven't already.. just pretend you are flippin through a victoria secret catalog, and give that hose a few mighty yanks untill it pops out of the housing, and remove the 00mm bolt near the headlight as mentioned above. if nothing seems loose or missing / broken, then its probobly time to check out your vacume lines, if nothing helps, take to a dealer or mechanic for an inspection. if your insurance paid a claim to get the car fixed, or the other party's insurance paid, you have a 2 year period after you close your case out to claim you are unhappy with the work that was done to repair your vehicle. most time inspection fees can be billed to your/their insurance company, whjoever paid out on the claim. hope this helps ya out.

I have no other pics, I actually stole that from google image search. My car is still at the shop.

Hopefully they can isolate the sound and stop it. The main things are that the airbox mounts are tight inside, the MAF sensor is tight and that thing on the side towards the engine.
Let us know later what they and you find out.

Well they took it to a toyota dealer for a second opinion this morning and they said that there was nothing wrong with it so I had to pick it up.

Oh well.

It's always better if you track down the noises yourself. That way you can fix them right.

Tighten the four bolts on the inside bottom of the airbox. You will need to remove the top part and air filter to get to them though.
