| Whenever I start to hop on the freeway, my rpms go from 3k to 5k, jumping over 4k. Is that natural? Shouldn't the needle like slowly build up to 5k? Is it also natural to have it hesitated 3k for a 1 second then jump to 5k? The speed im usually going is 40mph to 60mph. I'm still learning about how things work with cars, so forgive me for my noobness and probably basic questions. |

what do you do? stomp on the gas?
if the car downshifts.. yea.. the rpms are gonna jump more quickly. |

Well, i dont stomp on it, but i push down slowly so i can accelerate to get on the freeway and when passing people on the freeway. But that somehow triggers it to go from 3k to 5k quickly. I should mention its an Automatic btw. |

| I have an a/t too and I dont floor/stomp on the gas, but I don't experience the same RPM jump you experience. Has this been going on for awhile, or just recently? |

i fear the dealer. I dont want me screwing me over. And is warranty 50k or 60k? because im near 60k right now. And it has been doing this for awhile, and i just got to me just recently that something maybe wrong. I am due for an oil change next month, if that is any clue to what's going on. |

it was pretty much implied with the symptoms you talked about..
the car knows you want to accelerate by how you press on the gas pedal, and if it needs that extra boost, then yes, the car will downshift to a lower gear, thus causing rpms to jump higher.
as it is, i see no problems with what you are experiencing. |

This is normal, a car will jump RPM when it downshifts. On a typical highway your car will need to go from approximately 45mph to 60-70mph in a short amount of time so it has to downshift to compensate. You may not realize this but you dictate this step according to how you step on the pedal.
If you want to test it, observe your RPM when going 30-50mph regular driving then do it again but before you get to 45mph press on the gas a little harder, you should feel the car downshift and your RPM will jump to about 3500-4000 instead of the normal 2000-3000. All this is approximation as I have no idea what the gear ratio is for an xA. |

| Thanks SquallLHeart and LRomero and everyone, for the reassurance. I just wasnt sure if that is a major problem or just something that just naturally happen for cars. |

Overdrive, [D], throttle kickdown, automatic downshifting |

The basic warranty is 50,000 so you know. Had a dealer try to get me to pay them over $100 to get them to put on a new drive belt when it's not worn bad.
Oh, and most of your acceleration can't be felt until about 3500 RPM, for a standard at least. |

Just curious if you have any engine mods or not. I know when I had my Injen CAI it did that type of thing allot and was even worse revving at 70-25.
Now that I changed it to a SR I don not have this problem with the revving rpm. But I am not sure if I am talking about the same thing. Let me know if I am off here :) |

| I can't comment on that set up. I wish I could help. I know some do have it that are on ScionLife though. |

| I'm sure you ride in a car with a friend or family, if they have an automatic just look over at their RPM gauge when they get on the highway, it should do the same. If it's a big motor it wont jump as much, but still will some. |
