I am thinking about adding a TRD Sport Muffler next. Besides my XD sounding better will I see any changes in MPG or HP?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks :nails: |

| not with just the muffler change... if you want any HP or MPG gains, do a custom catback, 2.25" or so. the stock piping is like a garden hose after the 2nd cat. |

| garage1217 did a good writeup on the exhaust system, basically he said the header is great, if your going to replace it, it is really only necessary after the cat, where the piping diameter gets really narrow. so only header back or cat back, not just a muffler. |

| it looks like Magnaflow has a Cat-Back in development. if you go to www.magnaflow.com and look up the XD using the vehicle configurator (or whatever you want to call it under search) it lists one product for the XD a Cat-Back system with a price of $646.51. but doesn't have the spec's listed. |

| wow, thats still waaayyyy too much money for even a catback on this car. $499 or something is more reasonable. maybe im just spoiled with my $150 catback, lol. |

| if you consider that the TRD axle back lists for $400+. $646.51 doesn't really sound that far off. that's about $250 for an R&D'd Mid Pipe. Sure it'd be nice if it were cheaper. But in my experience (however limited) parts for Toyota's are always expensive. |

| Tanabe has 2 exhausts for the XD, Concept G, and Medallion Touring, both are Axle-Back. The Magnaflow is the only Cat-back I'm aware of and most axle-backs are running close to $400. |

Way too much I can get a local muffler shop to put a cat back Magnaflow on my xD for about $300 granted only the muffler and extension is Stainless but who cares what is way under the car. |

Since we have no stickies to any detailed pix of projects: a repost from awhile back.
Budget catback exhaust

Cost only 200 bucks. Works/sounds fine but will probably rust out in 5 or 6 years. |

USMC has an important point here!
Folks, I understand that everyone wants a kit with all the piping, but you MUST realize that
pipe replacement is not rocket science, and just about ANY muffler shop can custom bend a wider tube to your TRD for a FRACTION of what you would pay in a kit. All you do is drive up, tell them what you need, a guy bends the pipes, welds the appropriate flanges and installs or hands to you. It's really that simple...

| If all you want is a bigger diameter pipe, sure you can do that. If you want it Mandrel bent and stainless most muffler shops can't do that. sure it's a lot of money and I'm not saying it's not. but there are more factors than just pipe size. personally I've had some bad experiences with budget exhaust shops and for the most part don't trust them. |
