ok guys i have a borla dual exhaust. Everywhere on there website it claims that this exhaust system is 50 state legal! it also says it is under the legal db for sound and carb legal also.
I got pulled over and explained to the cop that i still have my cat, and that this exhaust is 50 state legal. He asked me for a carb # which i know what it is.I couldn't find one so he wrote me a ticket!
-Tinted windows
-Tinted tail lights
-Modified emissions
-CA state REF certificate required
Heres my problem, i have to get my car smog'd and cannot drive it until i do so. Other wise it gets impounded for thirty days! WTF.....Im trying to contact borla and see whats up with the carb # but its a holiday weekend. If they claim all of this on there website they must have one, if not thats pretty much false advertising.N e one have any ideas, thanks.... |

I heard that you can pretty much get the case dropped when you need to deal with the state refs. But of course I heard that in scionlife and it's always 1/10 true.
can someone actually confirm this to me? |

Well, all the state refs have been suspended due to budget cuts or something, so just go to the DMV and get a temporary vehicle operating permit.
CARB's website is current offline, but this was from another post, which someone got off their website a week or two ago.
Quote: Per the Governor's Executive Order issued on July 31, 2008 concerning the state budget, Referee and Consumer Assistance Program (CAP) Repair Assistance, and Vehicle Retirement services have been suspended until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience. Consumers may call the Department of Consumer Affairs, Consumer Information Center at (800) 952-5210. Also, please check our web site periodically to confirm when both Referee and CAP services will resume. |

nah man, i am a responsible driver. no bs, he just saw my car and decided to **** with me. N e wayz all this still leave me with problems.
Ro Ja- kinda confused about what your trying to say. If thats true why did the cop issue me a ticket to get REF'D....
To the others- yeah its total false advertising if they claim 50 state carb legal and cannot even provide proof. Im pretty frustuated with the entire situation...im putting a lot of effort into fighting this cuz its crap. |

Basically i modified my exhaust system, borla claims it is 50 state legal. The cop said with out a carb # my exhaust is considered a illegal modifcation to the emissions on my car. That means i have to put my stock exhaust back on my car and take it to a certified shop to get it smog'd. I cannot drive my car n e where until this is done. If i do, its a thirty day impound...in other words ill go broke trying to get my car out. |

Hey,
Don't worry about it man. I got a fix-it ticket a week and a half ago that required me to go to the state ref also.
Oh Thursday, I got the ticket in the mail. It's now a regular fix-it ticket that I can just get a cop to sign off. |

what does that have to do with anything, fact is borla is a major company. Just look at there website, they have been in business for many years. There saying that this exhaust is 50 state legal. Thats the only reason i purchased it, otherwise i would have spent $350 for pretty much dual tips and thats it! |

File under DYK: while CA's vehicle registration (the VLF portion) can cost you a few hundred dollars each year , Oregon's vehicle registration is a flat rate (most of the time just $57 for 2 years + $21 for smog check.)
I'm just saying...CA has some of the strictest laws all around. Thank goodness I got out. BTW, I hate your government officials. Your state and local governments are the reasons why my state is considering banning paper and plastic bags and banning incandescent bulbs.

Hey BFDBOX, did you finally get to talk to someone from Borla? That totally sucks that they wrote you up on the exhaust.
What I don't get is when I see a Harley roll by and they don't seem to get ticketed by 5-0 but modified cars do!
Some may say that the person was pulled over for driving agressively but I see bikes doing the same thing. I have never heard an exhaust louder than one coming from a modified Harley. Noise pollution is noise pollution. Hey if cars get cited for loud exhaust , let's cite the bikes also right? Fair is fair. My two cents. |

The reason why Harley's don't get pulled over for their loud exhaust, is cuz their stock exhaust have been made that loud since before the whole law was passed concerning exhausts and how loud they can be. This was explained to a group of us at a show by a cop. |
