| Posted: 9/2/08 6:17AM Post subject: Weird Clutch noise/tingle/ringing HELP |
|
|
so a couple of weeks ago i started noticing more and more that my car makes this weird tingling sound. at first i thought it was the typical tick tick that our drivetrain has but it wasnt it. one day i put my foot down on the clutch and noticed it went away but as soon as the clutch is released it came back. in neutral also. but even when i DONT engage the clutch all the way but jus that inch before the clutch is actually enganged it goes away. theres no slipping of the clutch at all. driving is fine shifting is fine its jus an annoying tingling sound. goes away when the clutch pedal is tapped on NOT even engaged.
can any1 help? i tried searching but there was nothing
clutch doesnt slip everything is fine besides that car drives fine. its a 2005 with 66,000 on the odo
oh yes the day i noticed it my brother said it sounded like a squeaky belt but its impiossible because it comes from the driver side
PLEASE HELPPPP any1 know wat im talkin bout? |

Is it a stock clutch or aftermarket?
It's pretty common on aftermarket clutches.. but if it's a stock clutch, it could be a worn throw-out bearing.
But if it sounds like "squeeky belts" then that may be something totally different. |

A throw-out bearing itself is not expensive - it's the installation that will kill you. You pretty much have to go through the motions of a clutch install to replace it.
So my recommendation is, since you have 66k miles on the car, why not just upgrade the clutch now? Dezod.com has some good deals on Competition Clutches..
I have a stage 4 with a 9lb flywheel. Now mind you, with an aftermarket clutch, you may get this sound - but it's actually a normal thing for aftermarket clutches because the throw-out bearing isn't stock. |

| ^ ohh ok so wit a aftermarket it has this noise no matter what? ok i get it. reason i wont switch the clutch jus yet is because my clutch isnt bad its still good and im also looking to trade in my car. but is this noise bad for my car? will anything EFF up if i continue driving it wit the noise? |

| Nah you should be fine. As long as the clutch doesn't feel any different and holds fine. |

| happened to my 06 tc. went to the toyota dealer and they had to use graphite lube on the throw-out bearing in the clutch. Nothing is wearing down in your clutch.....sh|t just needs to be lubed up. |

| it didnt cost me anything...there were 34k on the odo (barely under warranty). Took them about an hour to do. Im sure you could search on here how to lube that up and buy some nice lube at your local schucks/autozone. |

Gotcha, I know I was a day late and a dollar short on this, sorry about that. I'll try and pay more attention.
