|
|
I have a theory to throw out to you guys so hear me out.
I want to get more power from my tC's motor but I do not want to turbo it. I found some JE pistons on killertc.com that boost my CR from 9.5:1 to 11.0:1. I'm trying to estimate my HP and that is where my theory comes to play. Celical GTS has a 1.8L 180hp motor with at 11.0:1 compression ratio. Civic Si 2.0L motor with 200HP. With this information I believe that the 2.4L tC motor could push out somewhere in the area of 230-240 HP. It makes logical sense to me, the only other thing I can think of is how much RPM we have. The Si Redlines at 8000 where we redline around 6500. Would that make a difference?
Any help with this idea would be great, just thought I would throw it out there.
Thanks |

| Are you thinking those pistons alone would give you that kind of increase?? |

| I'm thinking it is based on my logic. I asked a guy at the local shop I get all my stuff done at and he said that the pistons do give you an 11.0:1 ratio. I just want to get input from other people if they have any experience with anything but turbos..... |

they deff wont get you anywhere near that power. both the cars you mentioned their engines are designed to take advantage of the higher compression ratio.
you would have to build up your head and port and polish it along with the higher compression pistons. cams would also be a good idea while your in there. you will also need to get a standalone engine management to fully take advantage of everything.
how much HP you would get from it is questionable. but with all that you will deff be much faster then stock and would be able to red line around 7,500k
your gas mileage will go down the tube as well even with a tune as our cars dont have a 6 speed and vvti-l |

I couldn't have said it better..
There's a lot more you'll need to do than just 11:1 compression pistons to get to where you want to be.
Lots of machine work on head, shave your crankshaft, get lightweight rods, increase rpm to at least 7,000, full standalone, bigger throttle body (ditch DBW and get cable), bigger intake manifold, etc etc. |

| yeah basicly there is alot more that you have to do to the engine in order to take advantage of the higher compression ratio |

| they rev so high because they have less of a stroke. thus less mass to rotate. unless you get lightweight rods/pistons and build up your crank and block, don't expect much. but yet again, you're looking to spend about $3k at the least for all this for what....40hp gain at the absolute most? |

| I traded my tC in for a new SI. I redline at 8300 and most of the power band is from 5800 and up. The tC is not a high reving motor, and was never designed to be. tCpete barely broke 200 i believe with full boltons and 11:1 pistons. I believe hes going turbo now, im not sure. It would deff add HP, but you wont be in the 230 range without spray. |

yup, if only these engines came with lift...... |

| just blow the welds on your intake. that should get you some hp. |

you really only have to port and polish the head and upgrade the valvetrain to get the tC to rev safely to over 7k which isnt bad
you don't really need to touch the crank shaft imho but getting weight off the drivetrain would help out alot. not only would it rev quicker but higher as well. thus why you would want to remove things like the balance shafts and replace the flywheel and crank pulley with light weight versions. lightweight pistons and rods would also help towards the cause .
i could honestly see a all out n/a tc making well over 250whp, only thing is that its gonna guzzling up that gas like you wouldn't believe even when properly tuned. not to mention it would cost a mint to build... $10k+ range |

If you
Resleave you block to 89MM
Upgrade your rods
Use cr 11.0-1 pistons
Port & Polish your head
Titanium valves, springs, and locks
Upgrade cams
use a I,H,E, and engine management you might get close to what you mentioned. |
