| Hello. I have a Jensen VM-9022 Double DIN headunit in my xb. It has options for everything except a tv tuner. Is there a small unit designed soley for picking up television signals? Is this all a moot point after February when all the signals go digital? It would just be nice to pick up some kind of tv station instead of just displaying movies. Do I have any options? Thanks for your time. |

from my past experiences working a n a stereo shop, TV tuners are crap in general. We had a guy that had a xB, that had a tuner in his, and we put 4 antennas in his car, one in each side rear glass, one in the back glass, and one up front, and he still could barely pick up a station or two. if you moved the car a foot, it would pick up diff stations. so they are not very reliable IMHO. if you REALLY want TV, then get SAT for the car.
And I am not sure about the tuners still working when they go digital. |

SAT FTW..
I was going to say the same.. the tuners barely get the strongest signals..
however, it can be done.. but you will not find it usefull |

| Yea, that's pretty much your only option. Even if you did a terrestrial tuner, it would be obsolete as of Feb 2009. |

I used a DTV tuner for awhile that worked pretty good,The only problem was I had to run a power inverter to power it.
You can run it right to the monitor.

You can get dtv turners cheap and about every store sells them They pick up digital signals and conerts them to analog for non digital tvs.

Yeah you can get one of the DTV converter boxes and use that... but I beleive they all run off 120V so you'll need a converter box. The other problem is finding a good omnidirectional antenna for the car. If you drive near the towers it shouldn't be a big issue, and the beauty about digital is that they signal won't get fuzzy.. its like DVD it can get choppy and blocky.. but if you have a signal you get a crisp clear picture.
Im not sure if they make a DTV converter box for automotive use. |
