Say what you will about safety... I've made my decision and did quite a bit of research on it. Will be used ONLY for autox purposes. Will be installed to the rear upper seatbelt mount as per the Schroth instructions.
Schroth Rallye 3.
Oh, my other project for this weekend? Dezod rear endlinks. |

Many people are of the opinion that it's unsafe without a harness bar or cage (spinal pressure and such depending on mounting). And I understand all of what they're saying and take it all to heart... but I feel like Schroth knows what they're talking about and if they're instructions say it's OK the way I'm going to mount it, I'm good to go. |

| this might a stupid idea but, im in the same situation too , not having a harness bar, but can i hook it up to the rear seatbelts but over the c pillar bar?like using the c pillar bar as the harness bar....but i dont think my harnesses are that long... |

Ya, I don't think the c pillar bar would work. Don't think it would be strong enough for it, really. But this particular one (3 mounting points) may mount into the same location as your c pillar bar. I'll know exactly for sure this weekend.
And yes, I think a how-to would be in order. |

Um where are you mounting the back strap to.......can you post up some photos.....remember be safe with life safety equipment.....install it correct and cut no corners........
I had a 76 Camero and flipped it a good 3 times and the only thing holding me in was the harness......my seat was ripped out the floor and held loosely by one bolt.......walked away unhurt........bad part was the cop at the intersection 100' away was tripping.......he never expected to see that......car was a total loss........went form 90-0 in under 4 seconds....yes I was young and an idiot.......never do that crap on the street. |

I understand you guys are nervous... but here's what's going on...
Schroth's own directions give the OK for the Rallye 3 to be mounted to the rear seatbelt point. I think they know what they're doing. I'm not breaking the 90 deg rule... or even close to it. This will only be used in autox. If you see a car roll or a bad accident in autox, you let me know.
I personally know many people who run these harnesses (without bars/roll cages) in autox and have for many, MANY years without any issue. Does that guarantee that there would never be an issue in my situation? No, not really... but it does make me a little more confident in my choice.
And obviously, pics/thoughts of install/fit will be posted and I will drive around for just a little bit with it on to see how it'll feel. If for some reason I feel at all unsafe in it, it will come out. |

Yeah, I know; nervous, but not yelling. You're only going to operate at half the speeds of road racing, so like you said, it's not that much of an issue.
Why not bolt it to the floor? |

If I got to the floor or the child seat mounts in the back, I'm going to break the 90 deg rule and have more potential for a spinal injury down the road. I've read that the wrong angle can pull down on your shoulders too much and potentially cause some issues. I don't know how much potential... but it's there. |
